The Dyslexic Brain DBR01

  • This course is designed to familiarize candidates with how the brain functions relative to various reading disorders.

Course Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course candidates will:

  • Gain an understanding of how working memory acts as the computer of the brain.
  • Learn left side vs. right side and how each side of the brain functions differently.
  • Understand how different regions of the brain correlate with different reading disorders (reading comprehension impairment, global reading disorder, dysphonic, surface and mixed dyslexia).

Implementation of “Pathways to the Mind” IPM02

  • This course is designed to instruct candidates how to teach “Pathways to the Mind” to students with learning differences.

Course Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course candidates will:

  • Gain an understanding of how imagery facilitates learning.
  • Learn how to teach Volumes I, II and II using explicit and systematic (sequential and cumulative) instruction.
  • Higher Level Thinking and Beyond

The Language System LAS03

  • This course is designed to teach candidates how language works.

Course Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course candidates will:

  • Gain an understanding of syntax or the study of sentences and phrases.
  • Learn the difference between semantics and pragmatics.
  • Understand lexicons or the set of inflected forms taken by a single word.

Effective Lesson Planning ELP04

  • This course is designed to familiarize candidates on how to write effective lesson plans.

Course Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course candidates will:

  • Learn the importance of good lesson planning.
  • Learn how to include objectives, requirements, procedures and evaluation techniques in their lesson planning.

Effective Writing Strategies EWS05

  • This course is designed to familiarize candidates with how the teach writing strategies.

Course Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course candidates will:

  • Gain an understanding of the types of struggling writers.
  • Gain an understanding of how to teach those students who are stuck for ideas.
  • Gain an understanding of how to teach students who are disorganized and lack structure.
  • Gain an understanding of how to teach students who feel disconnected to the assignment.

*To be fully certified in Reading Innovations Language Program all courses must be taken.

  1. Course Work: 40 hours
  2. Teacher observation of candidates: 5 hours
  3. Class observation by administrator: 5 hours

Pricing:

  • $3000 for certification
    • For those teachers who are self-funding their course instruction, this fee may be paid in 6 installments over the span of six months.
  • $500 for each of the following courses: These courses can be taken individually.

    • ELP04
    • EWS05
      • Individual courses must be paid in full.
